Alan Turing 23 June 1912 – 7 June 1954

Today the department Informatics of my University celebrated the centenary of the birth of Alan Turing.

He is one of the most inspiring person in my life.

Just to make it short, Turing was one of the founders, if not THE founder, of computer science. During the second world war he decrypted many code used by the Nazis for their transmission (most famous is the ENIGMA code). After the war, his homosexuality resulted in a criminal prosecution  when homosexual acts were still illegal in the United Kingdom. He accepted treatment with female hormones (Chemical castration) as an alternative to prison. This treatment severely deformed his body, to the point he was able to practice his favourite sport, running in marathons, no more. He died in 1954, just over two weeks before his 42nd birthday, from cyanide poisoning. Some, like his mother, thinks that it was an accident, others, think that Alan cannot stand what they have done to him. The hypocrisy of the society that loved the Scientist but condemned the man was a real cause of suffering for Turing.

Personally I love the genious as much as I love the man.

BASTION - video game review:

An awesome action rpg is going to make you drop your jaw and desire for flashy colors everywhere.

Bastion is a  gem. A rare one. I cannot  be totally objective with this review because I developed a strong tie  with this game. You know, that beatifull thing that happens with few games capable of make you reflect about something in your life.

Maybe for its story. The tale is narrated using short, evocative phrases with the amazing voice of Logan Cunningham. Best part is, that you will learn most of the story during action, letting you  care more about what you are doing. Every detail, every useless object you found, every person you encountered has a story to tell. Ok maybe these story does not go so deep, but isn’t  a good tale the one that makes you wonder about it?

Maybe for its graphic.  Bastion is all splendidly hand draw and colored. All the stages have completely different sprites, and, to me, just seeing new part of the world could be a good reason to keep play.

Maybe for its gameplay. Ok, i love action rpg. Bastion is a really good one. Tons of customizable weapons, that fit  best with your playstile. The difficulty in the firsts levels is low, but then you can freely customize it by using idols. Activating idols makes enemies stronger, but let you earn more experience and money. I assure you that last levels with all the idols activated are no joke. On the defence side, there are no custom armor, but you can choose from a set of possible passive bonus and secret skills.

Maybe for its musics. The musics are really amazing; they recalled me something like the Trigun’s OST. The OST of this game is now  a stable one in my ipod.

To fully complete Bastion it will take about 15 hours. If you are able to find it on offer, don’t think about it twice and take it!
